The best places to stay in Mauritius
Mauritius is one of those islands that when you think of, you imagine endless beach vibes. One interesting travel fact is that it is often compared to the Maldives and Seychelles. Having been to all 3, I can confirm that none of the 3 islands is the same. The best places to stay in Mauritius span from north to east, family friendly to adults only. Having visited this beautiful island twice and stayed in 3 different hotels, we were lucky to have enjoyed all 3 and I can confidently recommend them.
All 3 hotels are located on the beach so easy access to experience a tropical beach holiday.

Le Meridien île Maurice, Mauritius
This Marriott hotel has always had the reputation of being one of the best family friendly hotels in Mauritius. It is located in Pointe aux Piments on the north of the island, close to the popular Turtle bay and has an incredible kids club. We recently stayed here for 3 nights and had the best time. It is priced mid luxury and I would say that it is on the affordable luxury scale. Le Meridien île Maurice is one of the best places to stay in Mauritius.

Aesthetics and Ambiance
Le Meridien has 3 pools which were spread accross the resort. Actually, 4 if we are counting the pool in the kids club. It feels like an open space from when you step into the doors through the reception area. The beach is in the distance and you can hear the waves humming as you walk through the hotel. I thought it was really beautiful and I immediately understood why it was very popular.
Food
There is the main restaurant, Nomad which serves a buffet style breakfast. Dinner here is also buffet style with themes for different days. We had dinner at Nomad twice on the Arabic and international nights. The buffets were varied with a lot to choose from which I appreciated especially while travelling with a child.
We also had dinner at their Asian restaurant, Jade which we enjoyed and concluded that it was out favourite. It had a romantic feel to it as it was water front with the beach in the background. The food was really good and service was exceptional as well. It was the only place we reserved during our stay.
There was Kumin which was Indian cuisine, open for dinner only and Waves for Mediterranean and Creole food.
For children
The kids club is really lush for children between 4-12 (younger children were welcome but had to be accompanied by their parent(s)). Open from 9am – 10pm, it occupied one whole end of the hotel. It had a mini pool, out door play area and inside facilities for arts and crafts etc. The ladies who worked there were lovely, friendly and seemed to really care about the kids. I loved that they had daily activities for kids which included a day out to the nearby village!

For adults only
Although Le Meridien prides itself on being family friendly, it had its adult only area “Nirvana”; which included adult only suites to an infinity pool where once could enjoy cocktails from the Nirvana bar. Of course, travelling with our child meant that we did not pay a visit to Nirvana but I can imagine it must be lovely.
Experiences at Le Meridien île Maurice
The experiences made it of of the best places to stay in Mauritius. Some of the activities offered include water activities (boating, water ski, kayaking, snorkelling), tennis court, archery court and yoga sessions.
Its location meant that it is nearer the best beaches in Mauritius like Blue Bay beach and Belle Mare beach. We loved the sunsets on this side of the island and each evening, we were blessed with stunning views on the beach everyday at about 6.30pm.
The best places to stay in Mauritius: Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita
Four Seasons is for the couple or family who wants luxury, beautiful aesthetics, great food and where you won’t regret the money you have just splashed out. It is in the private Anahita peninsula, on the east coast of Mauritius, in Beau Champ.
Four seasons Mauritius at Anahita is one of the best places to stay in Mauritius. It is on the east of the island and close to the famous île aux cerfs island. On this side of the island, the most beautiful sunrises are common if one can wake up at 5.30am for them.
The resort is super luxury and all rooms are built villa style, complete with a pool. We stayed in the one bedroom pool villa for 4 days and it was the most wonderful experience. It is one of those hotels that you never want to leave.
Aesthetics and Ambiance
It is no surprise that the Four Seasons is incredible when it comes to how their hotels and resorts look. This one was no different. As it had been newly renovated, everything looked so new and clean. The best way I can describe the aesthetics is that nature had been brought in and walking around the resort, you would think you are in a botanical garden.
Food
We ate at 4 different restaurants – Ti Pwason, Radici, Awase and Angara. The cuisines ranged from Mediterranean to Mauritian to Indian to Japanese. There was something for everyone. Breakfast was served at the main restaurant, Chaloupe which was also popular for meals and light bites for lunch.
For Children
Four Seasons Mauritius had a kids club which our daughter used often and a teen club too. They had mini bicycles for kids to get around which I thought was cute. In classic Four Seasons fashion, there was as mini robe and slippers for kids in each room. I especially loved that they left her some clips and a beach bag in our room when we checked in. These little details always make kids feel really special.
Every restaurant has a kids menu which was specific to the cuisine. So for example, Awase, the Asian fusion restaurant had a kids menu that had asian speicific meals tailored to kids etc. This allowed our daughter try foods outside the usual chips and chicken nuggets. Children’s drinks were served in cartoon character cups which was of course, exciting for my daughter.
It is not doubt that Four Seasons Mauritius targets families which I absolutely loved.
Experiences at Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita
Now this is where they had my full attention. Four Seasons had their private beach on the famous île aux cerfs island and everyday, a boat took us to and fro the island. We spent a full day there and just had the most wonderful experience; food was from their La Plaz Grill, there were free sunbeds, cool water bags and the vibe was so chill. This makes it one of the best places to stay in Mauritius.

GRSE Waterfall
Back at the hotel, there was an experience to see seahorses, we also went to the GRSE Waterfall with the hotel’s private boat and skipper. Of course, they had a lot of free motorised activities as well. Basically, there was just so much to do if you did not want to leave the hotel even for a 1 week stay.
I have written a review of the Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita and it covers our full experience during our 4 day stay at the hotel.
The best places to stay in Mauritius: Ambre Mauritius – Adults only
Our first visit to Mauritius, we stayed in Ambre which we really enjoyed. It is the only adults only hotel on this list. We were in Mauritius for our baby moon and wanted a child free experience which led us to Ambre. As one of the best places to stay in Mauritius, this adults only resort is geared towards couples honeymooning or celebrating anniversaries. Ambre Mauritius is a 4 star all inclusive hotel on the east coast of Mauritius. It is in Belle Mare and sits between lush tropical gardens and a coral reef lagoon so as you can imagine, a snorkel lovers dream.
Ambre Mauritius is part of Sunlife group of hotels. I was particular about picking a seafront room with a terrace and Ambre was the perfect choice. The property sat on the beach and our room opened up to a mini patio leading to the beachfront.
In terms of luxury, it is a luxury hotel but quite affordable for the all inclusive package. We did not have much of a choice when we booked with a limited budget. However, it turned out to be even better than we expected. The hotel gave everything it was supposed to give. It had a lovely ambiance, the most wonderful staff, yummy food and lots of mocktails.
Aesthetics and Ambiance
My favourite part of the resort was the infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. It was the centre of the hotel and you could tell that everything was planned around that space.

Food at Ambre
The main restaurant is Indigo which was where the buffet breakfast was served every morning until 10.30am. Buffet lunch and buffet dinner were served here as well with no reservation. We dined here for the Mauritian themed evening and enjoyed a lovely seafood curry. Dolce Vita was the Italian à la carte restaurant for lunch and dinner; La Plage was for seaside dinning à la carte lunch and dinner.

Ambre has a day pass experience where you can check in for the day and enjoy the resort which I think is a really cool idea for a decent price.
Experiences at Ambre Mauritius
There were lots of onsite activities, which was perfect for Mr E since I was heavily pregnant and just wanted to relax. On the other hand, there were a lot of chill and serene areas to relax and read my book.
We also had the luxury of visiting île aux cerfs through the hotel’s concierge for free. We were driven to the jetty and we boarded a boat to the island and then a golf buggy to the beach. There are free water activities like kayaking, snorkelling, glass bottom boat rides, pedal boats etc. A choice of land activities were also available; such as use of tennis courts and golf at île aux cerfs.
Nightlife is fun as well; with entertainers serenading the guests and the hotel had its on exclusive night club, H & H Lounge Bar & Shakers which was very popular when we visited. Although I was too tired to join in the partying, the friends we made confirmed it was a fun place to spend the night.
Some of the best places to stay in Mauritius also include Long Beach Mauritius which is Ambre’s sister, 5 star family friendly resort. We had considered it but stuck to our adults only choice since it was going to be our last hooorah before welcome our first child. Another family friendly resort affiliated to Amber Mauritius is Sugarbeach Mauritius which looked so pretty and would also have made the cut.
The best places to stay in Mauritius
Mauritius is a very family friendly holiday destination but its location also gives it a romantic twist. This makes it popular for honeymooners as well. We have now visited the island twice; the first time was before we had any child and the 2nd time was with our daughter in tow. So it has been lovely to experience Mauritius as a child free couple and as parents too. The choice of where to stay in Mauritius will be down to what one wants out of the trip.
Bisous, Bugo x
