Our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece

When discussing family friendly luxury stays, the Ikos properties are always on the top 3 list for Europe. So it was a no brainer for me to test it out. This honest review of our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece will cover our experience during our 6 days. It will touch on all the details and amenities in Ikos Dassia.

I would say that Ikos Dassia is a perfect luxury all inclusive resort holiday for families. From research, it is the first Ikos that opened on the Greek island of Corfu. There is another Ikos, Odisia in Corfu as well but for reference, we stayed at Ikos Dassia.

First impressions of Ikos Dassia,Corfu

We drove about 25 minutes from Ioannis Kapodistrais airport, to Dassia which was about 30 mins from Corfu’s old town. Once we got the resort gates, our taxi was ushered in. We got down and there was a lovely, welcoming feel as we walked into reception. We were immediately met by concierge who assigned a welcome host to us.

As soon as we sat, welcome drinks were ordered for us while we were checked in. I noticed it was bigger than I imagined, very snazzy and lush. You could tell from the reception that it was a family friendly resort with children around which immediately meant that we felt comfortable.

We went out of season and out of school holidays so we could tell it was not at capacity. I wondered what it must feel like during a summer week in July when schools are out. This meant that our stay in Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece did not feel overcrowded.

Ikos Dassia’s Aesthetics

It’s very Greek inspired – minimalist vibes but with lots of wood and gold accents. The resort felt luxurious and I loved that it was well spread out. Ikos Dassia is divided into 2 buildings – Sea and Sky. We were in the “Sea” building. However, there was no difference between Sea and Sky from what I noticed. Each one was like its own hotel but was quite similar – each had its own large, open plan reception with bar, restaurants, family and also adults only pools.

The kids club and splash pad sat in between both buildings. The beach also ran from one end to the other so you could access each building from the beach side of the hotel. 

Our Room at Ikos Dassia

We stayed in the Junior Suite sea view room.

I should have asked for a room higher up as I thought our sea view was obstructed by some low buildings. Maybe I was being finicky but I’ve stayed in more iconic sea view rooms so I was not so wowed. It was a lovely room; big enough and had a roll out sofa bed for our daughter. The bathroom was lovely with a shower and double sink situation; it was just off the walk through closet. 

Our bed was king size and super comfortable I must add. 

The mini bar and fridge were restocked daily and since we were all inclusive, even the drinks in there were free as well. Our balcony was big and we ate our room service lunches and dinners there. We had the view of the sea in the distance and even though I wanted a better view of the sea, it was functional and cute.

We had turn down service each night which I will always appreciate in a luxury hotel. All others, take note haha. 

Kids club

The Kids club at Ikos Dassia is incredible. It is named the Heroes Kids club, it is complimentary for children between 4-12 years. We sent our daughter in 3 times during our stay because she loved it so much. We had to pre-register her on the app and picked a 2 hour time slot for day 1 to see if she’d love it before we booked other days. You see, although she has been to a lot of kids clubs during our travels, we have always stayed with her. But this time, since she had just turned 4, we let her go by herself and my girl (who is a preschooler and loves organised learning) had so much fun! She literally wanted to go every day afterwards. 

The kids club activities include arts & craft, science/mystery experiments, wellness sessions, nature walks, creative kitchen fun, sports etc. One of the evenings, they asked if she could go on the “crazy couch” experience. This was one of those boat experiences where the floater is dragged by the boat. I was a bit nervous but she was excited as she went with the new friends she had made and absolutely loved it. 

The Kids club at Ikos Dassia is very good – probably the best we have experienced so far. The minders are professionally trained and you can tell they genuinely enjoy their jobs. 

There is a Heroes crèche for children aged 6 months up to 4 years. It is charged at 42 euros* for 3 hours. Babysitting service was 15 euros per hour, minimum 2 hours booking. There was also a Just 4Teens club for children over 12 years old, the teens club is complimentary.

Kids activities

Ikos Dassia is probably one of the best resorts we have been to for young kids. The resort is primarily dedicated to families having a wonderful experience. Children are not an afterthought but fully a part of the holiday experience. There is a football academy for children between 4-9 years old at an extra cost, tennis courts, outdoor playgrounds, splash park, swimming pools for children and of course, lots of green space to run around. 

We also borrowed a bicycle (with stabilisers) for our daughter which she excitedly rode for 2 days during our trip.

Restaurants at Ikos Dassia

There are 7 restaurants at Ikos Dassia and we dined in 4 of them during out 6 day stay. For the à la carte restaurants, we had to book them in advance prior to arriving at the resort. We were allowed to book 3 ahead of our stay and once we got there, could book any others subject to availability. 

Fresco

Fresco is located in the “sky” building and definitely the one we visited the most. It was the only restaurant that served breakfast until 11.30am which was perfect for late risers like us. Considering Greece was 2 hours ahead of the UK, a 10am breakfast time was equivalent to eating at 8am. The menu was à la carte and I probably had the same breakfast everyday. We had dinner at Fresco once as it was also the Italian restaurant. Where there is pasta, there I shall be.

Kerkyra and Ouzo

Kerkyra and Ouzo are Corfian à la carte which meant that we got to try Corfu delicacy. As you can imagine, the meals are sea inspired. The setting is really beautiful with outdoor/indoor seating that overlooked the beach.

Anaya

Anaya is the Asian restaurant, à la carte and this was another wonderful dining experience. We dined here on our final night and it did not disappoint.

There wasn’t enough time to try Flavours Sea which was Mediterranean buffet, Provence for French à la carte and Enoteca for Italian-Mediterranean. The Kids menus in each restaurant had the usual chicken nuggets, fish fingers, penne pasta, pizza etc. However each restaurant also had some specialties for children that was specific to the cuisine – I thought this was really lovely. Service at all the restaurants was friendly, quick and very professional.

10 things we loved about Ikos Dassia

Our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece was generally a fantasic experience. The kids club and kids related facilities were the real winners for us.

However, some other things we loved about Ikos Dassia were:

1. App log in

As soon as my payment was confirmed, I received an email informing me that I’d be sent a log in code for the Ikos app. I received this log in a few weeks later and downloaded the app. This meant that before we even travelled to Corfu, I was able to book restaurants for the first 3 nights. I was even able to book Kid’s club for our daughter and more excitedly, a free car hire for a day.

2. Free MINI Car Rental

Ikos Dassia allows you rent one of the electric MINI countryman cars for a day of local exploring. I had read about this somewhere but just never paid much attention until I received the email that I could book it. We immediately booked it for our 2nd day and explored Pelekas village and Paleokritas beach.

3. Free bus shuttle service to town

I loved that you are encouraged to explore Corfu even though you are in an all inclusive resort. Ikos Dassia had shuttles every 30 mins to take hotel residents to and from town. There’s an afternoon break and then the shuttle service restarts at 6.30pm all the way until 10pm. Basically, there is no reason not to visit Corfu old town while staying at Ikos Dassia. 

4. Free sunset cruise

There was a free boat cruise every evening which we took advantage of. It was not quite a sunset cruise but we got to explore some gems with a knowledgeable skipper for just over an hour. 

5. All inclusive premium service

Let’s face it, all inclusive could sometimes mean the worst when it comes to dining. However, not at Ikos Dassia. The luxury theme spread to the all inclusiveness which really impressed me. None of that diluting drinks or sub par food. We ate all our meals à la carte and every plate looked like a gourmet production. The wine menu was fantastic as well. Mr E had a bottle of red opened most evenings and the bottle stayed on our table even if he only wanted a glass. All my cocktails were fresh and in general, I was highly impressed with the food at Ikos Dassia.

6. The ice cream stand

Hot afternoons meant that we could just walk up the Gelateria and get some ice cream. I will always appreciate hotels that have free ice cream stands. It is worth mentioning that the ice creams were very creamy, like the ones you would buy from a fancy gelateria in Italy.

7. The Beach

I liked that the beach was not so far away. We spent some of the evenings on the beach while our daughter was in kids club. It is such a picturesque, serene beach and I looked forward to those quiet evenings every day.

8. Customer Service at Ikos Dassia

During our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece, I have to say that the customer service was exceptional. I touched on the fact that you never needed to look far to find staff happily ready to help. Nothing was too much of an effort from the team at welcome services to the house keeping staff. The pool staff were always so friendly and ready with mocktail options for me. Even when the hotel was busy (usually meal times), I never had to wait too long for a buggy to take us from one part of the hotel to the other. Just all round fantastic service. 

9. Daily Activities

Every day, there was a list of free activities at the resort. From sun salutation Yoga to Pilates, Table tennis, HIIT sessions for adults. For kids, there was even a (paid) football academy and (paid) swim class so kids could be enrolled for the time they were on holiday. Every evening, there was a show for children and for adults. We attended a “Wonders of Elements” theatre show for 45mins, this was for little explorers about the power of Mother Nature. There was always some activity one could join that it was actually overwhelming, in a good way though. If one did not feel like leaving the resort for a 10 day holiday, you would not be bored at all.

10. Pools

I counted 7 in total including 2 adult only pools. There seemed to be a pool at every turn which made my water baby obsessed with a swim every day. The main pool was such a vibe and not far from it was a kids pool and next to that was the splash pad. We never had to stress about sun loungers, there were plenty and a staff would always lay towels out once you picked yours. Drinks and food could be ordered directly to the pool and tbh, we had days where we could have spent all day by the pool. It was that comfortable and chill.

Adults only at Ikos Dassia

Although our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece was with our 4 year old daughter, I sought out the adults only offers as well for a well rounded review. I’ll be honest, it is very much geared towards families and I don’t think it’s somewhere I’d go for an adults-only experience.

Whilst it is such a beautiful resort, the adults-only pool, for example in “Sky” was located steps away from kids club. This meant that we walked by the pool to and fro kids club with our 4 year old. Even as a parent, I am of the opinion that adults-only should be somewhat restricted. You could see the effort to carve our adults only areas but it was very obvious that this was a child friendly hotel. There were more kids with families than there were adults on a romantic break for example.

Our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece

I am glad that we finally got to experience Ikos. Having heard adn read so much about the resorts, I knew it was one I had to go and see for myself. Corfu is a gorgeous part of Greece and I wish we explored more of it. However, Ikos was just so fabulous that I only left the resort once. I did not want to feel like I was missing out on any part of the resort so we stayed in more than usual. It did not help that I was pregnant so it was quite easy to laze around the resort.

There was excess of everything. Toilets everywhere which I appreciated a lot being in my third trimester. I never needed to look too far to locate a staff ready to help. It was just such a comfortable hotel and every detail had been well thought out for the best family experience.

Our stay at Ikos Dassia, Corfu, Greece was lovely and I will recommend to any families. Families particularly with children from birth to about 12 years old.
