Champneys Tring – Luxury Health Spa and Resort

If you are looking for a luxury health spa and resort, Champneys Luxury Health Spa will always be your best bet! Champneys probably needs no introduction but it would be bizarre to go into my review without giving a brief introduction right?!

Champneys – “The Resort that started it all” is noted as Britain’s original health spa and has been a pioneer for health spas since 1925 born on the back of naturopath, Stanley Lief’s vision. Although it has upgraded its facilities with time, it has remained faithful to where it all started.

Getting There

You most likely have to drive or take a taxi. I don’t think I saw any bus routes and I’m sure if you get the 45 mins train into the town from London Euston, you still need a taxi to get you to the property as it is tucked away quite nicely. There are car parks on the property so you don’t have to worry about where to park.

Located in the most stunning countryside of Tring, Hertfordshire, Champneys Luxury Health Spa is on the most beautiful property that captivates your senses. In fact, you are mesmerised as soon as you are even 5 minutes away from the property, acres and acres of the most beautiful autumn foliage that makes you feel grateful to get out of London lol. London, I love you but that tranquility you get outside London is bliss!

The main reason for going to Champneys was to have a breather and just relax. We also wanted to have a few treatments in between so it was the perfect option.

Our Booking

We booked an overnight stay. Basically, check in is 2pm and check out is the following day at 11am; however, 11am means you check out of your room but you can stay on the property and use its facilities until 4pm. What this means is that for an overnight stay, you have 26hours of pampering! Check in/out time is one thing I always check so I can plan my stay. More on things to check post I wrote on Hotel Bookings.

I will tell you that when we got there, I initially thought we should have booked an extra night but honestly, the overnight package is perfect and fits in everything with ample time to relax and do nothing as well.

Checking In

The check in process is quite seamless and there are 2 points with about 3 staff ready to check you in. As we got to the reception, we were offered welcome drinks. After exchanging pleasantries, we were given the resort’s map, given a little tour and shown to our bedrooms. We were also given a pair of flip-flops and the most statement outfit of all time – The Champneys Spa Bathrobe lol.

Lodging

We booked the Superior Room. It was luxe enough for our stay and opened up to the most gorgeous garden. It was really big with a king sized bed and had an en-suite bathroom. I loved being in the room a little too much tbh and it’s very easy to just stay there all day because of how comfortable the bed is. Oh and the fresh linen!!

Our Treatments at Champneys Luxury Health Spa

Isn’t that why we are here?

Thalassotherapy Spa Pool

This was such a vibe. Imagine being in a warm pool that permanently massages your entire body; it was where I spent a lot of my time tbh. The Jacuzzi, which was in the same room, was also a vibe. The perfect thing is that even though the spa pool was open to everyone on the property, it was never busy.

There was a Jacuzzi, Thalassotherapy Spa pool, sauna, Relaxation room and a chill area overlooking an outdoor Jacuzzi. We always almost had it to ourselves, which was really lovely! This was one area we did not have to make prior reservations for.

Clarins Facial

I was debating between a Clarins and Elemis facial and asked my twitter followers, which was more black girl friendly, and most people voted for Clarins so I went with it. I had to make a reservation and I wanted something quite light because of my sensitive skin so I went for the Clarins 25 mins facial. It felt so good afterwards and I was prescribed the serums to buy.

Champneys 50-Minute Massage

There were so many to choose from as you can imagine but I ended up going for the 50-minute massage to target my tense areas. It is one of their most famous massages and if you are unsure of which one to go for, I highly recommend! I tell you, it was divine! I walked out of that room feeling so refreshed and was pretty certain I could conquer anything! This was another one we had to pre-book because of its popularity; I actually think the booking came with the room!

Gym

Ok, not a treatment but we had access to the onsite gym and if you wanted a personal training session, you could book in for one of the slots and various sessions.

Food

Who said healthy food had to be bland and boring?! This was my favourite thing at Champneys! I remember saying to Mr E that everything was so tasty and I wish I knew how they cooked their fish so I could replicate it when we got home!

Dinner

This was semi formal and we had been warned earlier to dress smart casual. No gym attire, no bathrobes. It was a nice fancy date night, which I really enjoyed. You had to choose from the menu; most options were free but some had a supplement added.

Breakfast

Buffet-style and if you wanted something off the menu card, it came at an extra cost but I assure you, the buffet was more than enough!

Lunch

Lunch was buffet style and included all sorts of yummy steamed proteins and vegetables and just the right amount of carbs.

Café

There was a café for nibbles, tea and coffee if you fancied.

Is Champneys Luxury Health Spa expensive? Yes.

Do I think it is worth the exorbitant expense? Yes.

You know what? Champneys is one of those places you go to and not think of the money you are spending and just enjoy yourself because you deserve it. I think it is a nice treat for birthdays, anniversaries or just because! An overnight stay is enough to experience everything without getting bored of sitting around and doing nothing.

However, if you have Vitality Health insurance, you can get some coins off your booking. Ask your company if they offer any vouchers towards Champneys Luxury Health Spa, you would be surprised what is available to you. Remember that you don’t get if you don’t ask. Also, look out for deals on group-on and spa review websites. I have seen so many deals, you just need to be flexible with dates and if possible, stay away from booking weekends.

I found some discounts on the Spa Break website.

Enjoy and always remember to pamper TF out of yourselves when you get the chance!
