Live In The Hamptons: The Affair in Montauk

Let’s do something different this time“, I said to Mr E.

As you might have gathered from my last 2 posts in the New York series Where to Eat and What to Do we had been to New York a few times so we wanted (read: I wanted) to do something a little different this time. I knew going to the Hamptons was a possibility since it was only a few hours away so I suggested we go there for a night.

The next step was to decide where in the Hamptons to go to. I pretended like I did not have it all planned in my head and blurted “Montauk” to Mr E. Now this is where he asks “why Montauk“?  and this is where I tell him (and you) that it was on the back of a TV show, The Affair. Yup, a tv show! *insert goofy smiley*

Montauk is located in the town of East Hampton, New York and is often referred to as the end of the world due to its location on the map. After about 4 hours of driving and getting lost a few times, we finally got there.

TO STAY…
Breakers Montauk

I booked this cute motel via Expedia because I wanted a proper American experience so a motel was the answer. However, this was no ordinary (creepy) motel. Breakers Montauk was cute and had that eternal summer vibe going on. Too bad it was freezing and wet on the day we went, I would have loved to go in summer to enjoy the outdoor pool and its gorgeous grounds as the entire space totally transforms over the summer.

It is right across from the beach, has a restaurant on its property and has parking spots as well.

We stayed in the studio room and it came with beach chairs, a parasol, a little dining section, a little kitchenette and of course, we had a patio to drink my morning tea on!

TO DO…

I actually woke up at 5.30 am to catch the sunrise over the beach but I must have missed it or the sunrise did not happen. The latter is what I would like to believe.

Montauk is a little sea side town, it is very quiet or at least, was quiet when we were there, it has a slow and almost mysterious feel to it.

I will admit that I did not think there was a lot to do. Or maybe we just weren’t there for a long time, enough to explore perhaps?! Anyway, we asked the receptionist at Breakers and she gave us a little itinerary to work with.

The Beach
Freezing but we braved it. I had to see if Noah was lurking on the beach. Ok this is another reference to The Affair lol

Montauk Point Light
This is probably Montauk’s most notable landmark – Its lighthouse which is located adjacent to Montauk Point State Park
TO EAT…

Now we have arrived!

Excuse me while I reference The Affair once again (I really can’t help it haha). Now, you all know I had to eat at the popular restaurant where Noah met Allison for the first time. I could not believe it actually existed!

Everyone was actually friendly in here. They admitted that it was the first day they had opened for the year. I think we might also have been in the first batch of customers which meant that they were extra welcoming and super sweet with us.

The Lobster Roll
Imagine my excitement. YES IT EXISTS AND I’M ACTUALLY HERE!

I went in and ordered the lobster roll of course…

yup, as yummy as it looks! My love for seafood was well watered here!

I remember when I posted my Montauk stories on Instagram and someone asked if I went to the Lobster Roll. How could I have gone all the way to the end of the world and not gone to THE Lobster Roll? Of course I had to pay homage! It was even more exciting that they had just opened for the year on the day we went. Luck, you are thinking? Blessed, I say!

I’m glad we went to Montauk for that little escape and for the experience. I am pleased to announce that I may have now satisfied my inner TV self for the month.

Would I go back? Probably not. As much as I loved going there (& loved our motel), it was a weird experience for us. People kept staring which made us feel a little uncomfortable at times.

A few people asked if I ran into Allison and Mr ruin-all-lives Noah Solloway. Sadly not!

Until the next (very fun) post to close off my New York trip…

…Bisous, ‘Bugo x

  1. Can’t believe you went to Montauk! 😂😂😂 i feel you though. It’s one of those places you connect with on TV but is kind of weird in real life. Loved reliving via your pics.

    1. hahahaha sis! It was such a mixed feelings experience. On one hand I was happy I went, I was happy it looked exactly as it seems on TV but on the other hand, it was just an all round weird visit. We just could not shake off the stares and I remember being thankful that we were only spending a day there.

The motel and Lobster Roll were welcoming so I’ll always take that away xx
