The best Sunset Points In Cappadocia

Sunset Point, Goreme

If you ask anyone in Cappadocia where to go to view sunsets, they will most likely point you towards the Sunset Point in Goreme. It is possibly the most popular viewing point in all of this pretty town of Fairy Chimneys. From most points of Goreme, you can actually look all the way up and see the Turkish flag swinging in the warm breeze signalling the specific point which is the best point to view the sunset.

It is such a gorgeous location (well all of Cappadocia is tbh). The first night, after dinner, the plan was to go up there to catch the sunset but laziness happened and we just went back to the hotel so the following morning, we decided to view it in daytime. I think it would make for a great sunset point, just looking at all the colours of the formations but let me give you 4 more options!

Red Rose Valley

Ok. This was my most gorgeous sunset. The colours were so deep and mesmerising!

We went to the Red Rose Valley to watch the sunset on recommendation from our concierge at the hotel. In his words “you two will like red valley sunset because it looks like love and you two look like love” cue the awwwwwww. I found this statement so beautiful. He knew it was our anniversary holiday and I was appreciative of the fact that he thought about something we could do that was special and advised us to go there.

Here, the sunset’s change in colour determines what shade of red the formations will adopt from the lightest pink to a rosy red.

It did not disappoint.

  1. the formations made me believe I was on Pride Rock (cue Lion King music)
  2. the colours
  3. the colours
  4. yes, the colours

LOL

Another thing I love about Red Rose valley’s sunset point is that it is not as busy as the Sunset Point in Goreme which is a plus for cute, quiet moments.

Hotel Rooftop

Now this is a no brainer. This is why you come to Cappadocia. To catch feelings while watching sunrises and sunsets on rooftops. As I previously mentioned in Ottoman Cave Hotel Review and  Romantic Things to do in Cappadocia blog posts, don’t compromise on the type of hotel you book as these cave hotels (with the nice rooftops) are quite reasonably priced. Make sure it has a lovely terrace/rooftop so you can watch the sunset whenever without having to leave the property.

Ottoman Cave Suites gave us EVERYTHING! I mean, look at the gorgeous sunset we caught? What more do you want?! It was so beautiful watching it set over the formations and also houses in its line of setting.

cheers!
Love Valley

So we went to Love Valley because well, why not?

With its phallic shaped formations, I was intrigued to see what it would look like at sunset. I will be honest, there was nothing too memorable about this sunset. Maybe we were on the wrong side of the valley? Or the sun was having a personal moment? But it was just ok. At some point, we might have been the only ones there so I think this might not be a very popular sunset location because the view is not very sunset viewing worthy.

the slight saturation on the sunset gave a yellow hue
Can you tell it's not as strong as other sunsets?
Back Streets & Alley Ways

This was by far, my favourite.

As much as we love visiting the popular spots, we also love to find those cute not-very-obvious or not-very-talked-about gems. This one blew our minds. We were actually headed up the Sunset Point on the last night of our holiday but Mr E got carried away playing street football with the locals. By the time he was done, I knew that there was no point going up to the Sunset Point because we would miss its peak.

Magic!!

So what did we do? We went through a few back roads knowing the path the sunset would be (since we had gone up the Sunset Point a few days before). Then bam! The sun started to set in the most gorgeous mix of colours.

We found a little secluded area and relaxed and just watched the sun until it totally disappeared from the sky.

I have seen beautiful sunsets in so many countries and I know I am obsessed with them. Mr E always says they look the same but of course, he’s wrong. Every sunset is different especially in different parts of the world. I find sunsets in summer to be more striking; sunsets in tropical areas to be so much more colourful (think pinks, blues and purples) and sunsets in drier lands have more earthy tones (think oranges, dark yellows and browns). Cappadocia did give us a lot of beautiful moments and I am so happy we went there. The perfect 5-year anniversary gift we gave ourselves.

This concludes my Cappadocia series. However, for the next and final Turkey blog post, stay tuned for what I got up to in Istanbul.

Who else takes sunrise and sunset and cloud shots from the window seats in flight?!

Until my next sunset (or blog post; whichever comes first)…..

….Bisous ‘Bugo x

These are such colourful views! Something I didn’t really pay too much attention to on my holidays due to always being busy getting ready (typical) at the perfect sunset time but defo such a beautiful and romantic vibe! I need to work out my timings better as I do love a good sunset view!

ooooh I do love a gorgeous sunset!
Wait till you see my next post, we caught a stunningly beautiful one in Budapest just overlooking the Danube river. I still cannot get over it!

Just check your phone and it should tell you what time the sun will set (at least, a rough estimate); that way, you can make your way down to a perfect spot to watch it. I once woke up early in Mexico to catch the sunrise as well – PHENOMENAL! x
