Ottoman Cave Suites, Cappadocia

As you may know from my Instagram and Twitter, Mr E and I were in Cappadocia, Turkey for 4 days to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed in THE MOST UNIQUE hotel that I have ever seen, Ottoman Cave Suites while we were in Cappadocia. I mean, it was not extra fancy or anything like that but was very unique. Why? It was a cave suite. Yes, just as the name suggests, it was built in a cave-like enclosure.

I booked via Expedia a few months ago and the 4 nights cost just under £200. Ridiculously cheap? I knowww! I wanted to book the cave room but it was not available so I settled for the stone room instead.

First view once you walk into the property

Ottoman Cave Suites is situated in Goreme and its full address is Avcilar Mahallesi, Ilkokul Sokak No 16, Goreme 50180, Turkey. It is a family owned, luxurious hotel.

Airport to Ottoman Cave Suites

We landed at 8am at Kapadokya Havalimani Airport and we had a driver (organised by the hotel) waiting to pick us up. It cost us 40 turkish lira (TL) per person (so 80 TL for Mr E and I) for the journey to the hotel. The journey was about 35mins and was easy.

Once you enter, the first room to your right is its reception. Simple, effective and what I would call vintage. Cappadocia as a whole felt like we had stepped back in time, a few BCs so the reception gave us a prelude as to what to expect.

There is a terrace, which is sectioned into various private spaces.

There is a breakfast room in front where you have the most lovely spread every morning of pastries, fruits, hot food, tea and coffee.

There are a total of about 13 rooms in the entire hotel so breakfast room/terrace or anywhere else in the property is never crowded or noisy. Everyone is familiar and friendly too.

It was a big sized room, it even had 2 massive king sized beds in it. I mean, I’m not complaining as it came in handy. One bed was to sleep in and the other was to throw clothes and everything else on lol. The room could have easily fit four people perfectly. We stayed in the Stone room, which is a little different to the more popular Cave rooms. The raw and unfinished stone walls gave the room a vintage feel. I remember saying to Mr E that it looked like were in a tomb!

The room had the usual amenities – TV, wardrobe, bedside tables, chairs, vanity space, full length and a vanity mirror.

The Bathroom was a good size too – we had a sink, shower and toilet. Like I said, this booking wasn’t premium or anything. It was most likely the most basic option I went with. However, if the room we stayed in was their basic room, then I’m happy to say that it was fantastic!

The sink bowl was lovely and colourful and as you can imagine, very unique.

Rooftop

Now, this is why I chose this hotel. For its rooftop.

Going to Cappadocia, the main thing you see in pictures when you google, is its hot air balloon backdrops. You see people pretending to eat fruits, casually throwing their heads back and laughing like it’s not all staged. I too, was/am guilty of this LOL.
Anyway, this hotel had a gorgeous rooftop with carpets like in Aladdin (it reminded me of his home in the recent Aladdin movie). The rooftop also has a gigantic iron horse and everything you would expect from a Cappadocian rooftop.

Another day, another sunrise!
A few spoiler alerts

1 – The food you see in ALL the pictures are in fact, not to be eaten. Although they are edible, they are placed as props for the pictures to look pretty.

2 – You have to wake up incredibly early to get the balloon backdrop. I mean 4.30am early so you can freshen up, get dressed, makeup and fix your hair for the perfect shot. So all those pictures with people looking so happy & relaxed? They were probably sleepy AF as well hahahaha

3 – Not all hotels have this backdrop so the few who do could get busy with everyone trying to get the same picture. I read that some hotels allow non-guests in for a small fee to join in the experience too so yup, it could get a little messy! Thankfully, not Ottoman! With only 13 rooms in the hotel, there was never a problem when I needed to get a picture! Infact, the 1st two nights, it was just Mr E and I up there.

The Staff

Uber, Extra Friendly.

They were all so lovely, always smiling, helped us with directions and even helped us book our Hot Air Balloon ride when it seemed to have been sold out for the date we wanted everywhere. I had contacted them in advance before getting to the Cappadocia and I told them we would be celebrating our anniversary when we are there. Our room had rose petals and balloons on the bed when we got there and even though check in starts at 1pm, due to the fact that we had arrived a few minutes before 9am, they got the room ready for us asap and we were in by 11am!

I have to mention the breakfast lady, Serpil. She is SO lovely! She always had a smile and we always had a little chat. I learnt that she made all the food by herself so everything was fresh (you could tell she loved cooking and baking). She would always take time to explain every dish to you especially the Turkish ones and ask if you wanted her to make something special for you.

My thoughts on Ottoman Cave suites, Cappadocia

Ottoman Cave Suites is literally 5 minutes walk from the centre of town where you find all the shops, restaurants etc. It has air conditioning in all the rooms which is VERY useful because we were dealing with 29 degrees with scorching sun!

If I ever find myself back in Cappadocia, I will definitely stay at Ottoman Cave Suites for their brilliant hospitality and all round perfect experience.

Let me know if you would like me to include any more information whenever I review hotels in the future.

What a brilliant write up! I love this gem of a hotel. I’ll have to bookmark it for my own stay. Thank you for the behind the scenes honesty regarding the photo staging. I think the hot air balloons make for an amazing backdrop but my gosh what an early start! All the power to you for getting up to get that shot guurl!

hi Tinuke!! You’re very welcome. Thank you for reading and for leaving a comment too 🙂

I wish we did not have to get up that early. Tbh it depends on when the sun rises so I can imagine that during autumn/winter months, it is most likely a later time for the rides. I do feel it is worth it anyway. One of those things you just do because you have to!
