10 reasons to travel with your partner – Baecation

My travel niche would most likely fall into the category of travelling with your partner or couple travel. Well, at least, my instagram tells me so! There are so many lush reasons to travel with your partner and that’s why we are here; isn’t it?  Now we have cleared that, let’s get into everything Baecation!

Is the word “bae” still a thing?

I remember a few years ago when bae was the endearing word to use for your partner, I actually hated the word but it was used countless times around me that it became a part of my chat vocabulary too. Perhaps it is going extinct; however, the word “Baecation” seems to have stuck. I actually like this one haha

Now let us break down the different travels....

Solo travel has been happening since the beginning of time but more recently, has become quite popular. It is usually associated with finding oneself and all that Eat, Pray, Love vibe. Then you have the Girls Trips and Lads Holidays which are ultimately fun and sometimes, more tame extensions of Hen-dos or Stags. The Group Holidays are quite popular as well. This is where you organise a massive group of couples or singles or mixed to go on an adventure-seeking, sight-seeing or yoga-filled holiday.

Then there is THE Baecation. This one needs no introduction. It simply means to travel with your partner aka bae. This post will give you the ultimate pros of travelling with your partner as this is my favourite (and tbh my most popular) way of travelling. 90% of my trips have been with my partner. The only adult trips I did different were: relocation to France in 2005, a school trip to Brussels in 2010, a Girls Trip to Paris in 2012 and a wedding to Nigeria in 2018.

1. See the world with the love of your life

How amazing is it to be seeing the world with the love of your life?  Like how special is it that you can travel and experience these amazing cultures and beautiful views with your partner? Just stop and think of this for a second. I feel like there is nothing more for me to write, your imagination should just take you on a ride and hopefully, you catch my drift!

Cue – A whole new worldddddddddddddddddd…

2. Creating memories

The exciting thing about travelling is creating memories. Someone to share those beautiful moments with. I know that some people try to differentiate between being a traveller, nomad, tourist, whatever *insert rolling eyes* The bottom line is that you are creating a memory. With bae, this is 2 for 1. Not only are you creating your travel memory, you are creating it with them and thereby, it ties into the first point.

3. Pictures Pictures Pictures

You call them corny, I call them evidential memories; yup I just made this up. In case you have not yet noticed but I love taking pictures SO much. It is the essence of my being. Ok I kid I kid loooool but I do love pictures. The scenery of the location in the background, a monument behind, on water etc. Pictures for us are a reminder of the amazing time we had in the location. Now, as a solo traveller, of course you take pictures too but travelling with bae means that in those pictures, your partner is exploring what you are exploring, at the same time you are exploring. What is better is that there are pictures as a memento of what you witnessed together.

In another breath, when you travel with your partner, they are there to take your pictures on tap. No need looking for the stranger and having that sometimes, awkward conversation of asking them to take your picture or the fear that they might run away with your camera or phone, bae is always present!

4. Intimacy

Yes, Intimacy. This is actually no 1 tbh.  Living in England means that a lot of people are very conservative when discussing sex but I am here to tell you that it is ok to discuss and even enjoy (yes! Forbidden I know) sex. When you travel with your partner, it means that intimacy is tripled and I will tell you why. When you have been a couple for some time, the truth is that your home and familiar surroundings seem like the norm. Things you are used to stop being as exciting so that trip away to next door Paris or far away Bali will always reignite the passion; well unless you actually don’t like the person you are with lol *awks*

5. Free and Multiple Snuggles

I will paint a few pictures of why you should travel with your partner.

Those rainy, lazy mornings when you go for breakfast, come back to the room and snuggle up to catch up on the newest episode of the Bodyguard.

In the evenings, after a long day of sight-seeing, relaxing and reminiscing about the day you have just had while snuggled in bed.

The boat cruise you are taking on the Mediterranean sea snuggled up to each other and just enjoying the serenity.

That bubble bath you run after a day of safari, cuddled up to each other and just reminiscing about the incredible Lion Pride you saw earlier?!

You get the pictures? Yes, those ones.

6. Every Trip is honeymoon

Another valid reason to travel with your partner. You don’t have to be married to know what a honeymoon looks like and that is because hotels and resorts have now carefully designed their establishments to cater to couples “honeymoon style”. Gone are the days of only honeymoon suites having jacuzzis or swim up pools, those sexy see through bathroom doors or breakfast in bed options.

Now, almost every 4-5 star hotel will offer you such extras. For our honeymoon, we stayed in the honeymoon suite in Sandals Grande (St Lucia) but I have now realised that most hotels we have stayed in actually have had the same vibe.

7. It is cute AF

You know when you are wandering and seeing those historic sights and holding hands and laughing at your lame jokes and eating ice cream? Yup, cute AF!

Waking up 5am and running to the beach to catch the sunrise together? You got that right, cute AF!

Finding the perfect, serene and secluded spot to lay your blanket and watch the sunset while listening to Andrea Bocelli? Still and will always be cute AF!

8. Company (and Security)

Two, they say, is company.

Travelling with your partner means that you have them in your company to chat with, run ideas past and bounce off food ideas with as well. There is also an added advantage of having a second person with you to provide a second layer of security. While you are engrossed in taking that shot or reading that map or looking at that street food menu, your partner will be a second pair of eyes. We know that we can always depend on each other and the sense of security when you travel with someone you know that you can trust your life with is really unmatched!

9. You get over squabbles quicker!

On twitter, someone said you tend to argue a lot if you travel with your partner. This is possibly true because you are in each other’s space for most of the time but if you actually like your partner; and here I don’t mean being in lust or just tolerating the person, I mean actual like and friendship, you will get through those tiny arguments as well.

What better way to get over the little squabble than in a different country (or city), lying in bed or watching the sunset with a glass of prosecco (or G & T if you are Mr E) and knowing that this place, here and right now, is much bigger than any problems you will ever face together!

10. Because you can

Yes you can! You have a partner and you can travel with them so why not? I don’t want to hear that the relationship is new or you are not sure it is going to last bla bla bla. I am a believer of seizing every moment! I always say that there is no guarantee that your love will last forever but while it does, make the best of it and enjoy it to its fullest! If travel is something you like to do, then you can travel with your partner too, Just Because!

Now I’ve given you all the good reasons to travel with your partner aka bae and you might be asking what the cons are. I actually have zero cons. Cliché response maybe but I have struggled to come up with one. A lot of people prefer solo travel and others prefer group travels. I have simply compiled reasons why travelling with your partner is also a strong contender lol

So this is me telling you to go out and meet that person, fall in love (or not) and travel the world together.

Until next time,

LMAOOO the part about arguing is so real. But I VASTLY prefer baecations to solo vacations as well. I think it’s mostly because I truly enjoy his company and it’s always a different type of magical to enjoy something with someone who doesn’t necessarily like all the things you like. Always a different perspective. Also, perks like being able to taste some of his food so I don’t have to buy two meals just to try something etc. Loveeee this post.

yesssss! always ordering different dishes so we can eat out of each other’s plates especially desserts!
I did a solo trip in 2005 and although I loved the solitude bcs I LOVE my company, I really didn’t do much sight seeing in the over 6 months; I just went to class, came back to my room, watched tv, ate, read and slept!

Anyway, travel is our thing so I just want to see the world with him and continue living in my magical world. Maybe one day, a solo trip might entice me; until then, it’s me and him or me and my girls!

Yayyyyyy I’m glad you love it!! Thank you darling xx
