10 Trips You Have to Take in Your Lifetime

In creating a list of life experiences, there are 10 trips you have to take in your lifetime. These 10 give you an all rounder of everything that encompasses travel. In taking diverse budgets into consideration, they all allow for self-reflection, adventure and most importantly, love.

1. A Road Trip

Everyone recommends you take a road trip once in your lifetime. A cross-state or cross-country one and if you are daring, cross-continent. If you are Nigerian, you would most likely have gone on a few cross-state ones. When we were younger, we would drive 8 hours from Lagos to Anambra; stopping in Benin to see family. It used to be so much fun. While it’s not my first choice for a vacation, road trips are fun with the right group of people.

2. The Bucket List one

What is the one place you have always wanted to go to? That one location that when you think about, your mind gets instantly excited? Perhaps you are putting off for a special occasion, for when you have more money or more time? The bucket list trip is one the top 10 trips you have to take in your lifetime. For me, it is Fiji and Bora Bora. They are so far away and quite expensive so I am waiting for the perfect time to go. But very soon, Bora Bora and Fiji must see my face!

3. Off-Grid

The one where you are one with yourself and no communication whatsoever. Yes, log off Instagram and Tiktok and Twitter and switch off your phones totally for a few days. I find these off grid trips are better when combined with calming vibes – a yoga retreat, spa holiday or a detox boot camp so you come out of it feeling extra rested, calm and rejuvenated.

4. The Adventure one

Who loves an adventure? Nope, not me. However one of the trips you have to take in your lifetime has to be an adventurous one. Hiking would most likely be a good shout. I can actually manage hiking for about 2 hours but anything more is simply torture. Don’t worry, I am still warming up to an adventure-filled trip and you will be the first to know when it finally happens. Other popular adventurous trips are cycling, mountain climbing and water activities such as snorkeling or deep water diving.

5. Baecation

This is a must in one’s lifetime. You don’t have to be in love or be married before you go on a baecation. It is one of the 10 trips you have to take in your lifetime. The intimacy, the fun, the sunset watching and even the most mundane things hit different with someone you fancy. I have written a post on reasons why you should travel with bae. However, if you need more convincing, my Instagram should be your lurking ground.

Baecations are my most fun way to travel and I will forever champion travelling with your person.

6. Girls Trip/Lads Trip

I don’t mean hen dos or bachelor parties. When I think of girls’ trips or lads’ trips, I think of time away at any point in your life with your girls or your boys. They are usually quite fun, naughty and full of arguments but that’s why we love them. Isn’t it?! I have not done a lot of girls’ trips recently and my last one was to Paris with 2 friends a few years ago. I’m due for another so I have to be intentional to plan one soon with my girls.

7. Solo Trip

Every solo traveller and their mama swear that everyone has to go on a solo trip in their lives. I don’t disagree but it is really not as deep as everyone makes it out to be. I have done a couple of solo trips and they were nice for the “on your own” getaway but that’s that. Solo trips are usually associated with finding oneself, reconnecting with oneself and all that empowering vibe. I can say that on my first solo trip, I was really young and felt empowered walking on Champs Elysées on my own. So I guess this must be the angle solo travellers always speak from.

8. Family Holiday

Why are family holidays always full of one drama or the other? Maybe I am referring to all the dramas I have watched on TV because now I have thought about it; we did not have any drama on ours. We went to Cannes on a family trip with Mr E’s family a few years ago and it was actually fun. My favourite part is when everyone spends the evening reminiscing over one thing or the other.

9. The boujee one

Everybody deserves a boujee trip. The one where you go to an all-inclusive resort with a butler at your service and a private pool. I mean, if you are rich rich, this is your life anyway. However, if you are one who has to budget for travel, a boujee trip is one of the 10 trips you have to take in your lifetime. Most people reserve this one for their honeymoon, as it is usually a once in a lifetime one. Others just plan well towards it.

10. Staycation

I am a big believer in exploring your own city. There has been a recent rise in staycations as everyone is looking to vacation close by; however, I hope this trend stays even long after we have all forgotten about the pandemic. Staycations also mean that one has the perfect opportunity to give back to ones local community. The fact that all the gems you discover have been close to you all the while makes it an experience worth having.

That’s it. My list of 10 trips you have to experience in your lifetime. As with numbered opinionated posts, I love to give a disclaimer. There are usually other experiences that perhaps trump these and of course, they are valid as well. My list is to be used as a guide as always and one can add or remove as one pleases.

I hope it encourages you to continue to dream and hope and plan your travels. Until my next flight, road trip or train….

Bisous, ‘Bugo x
