35 Things I Love About You

To my Mr E

On your lovely 35th birthday, still in the spirit of doing things I’ve never done before, I am writing you this love note to highlight 35 things I love about you.

Grab a coffee (that fancy one you like), sit back (I’m guessing you’re doing this already), enjoy!

1.   I love that you put me first, always and seek my opinion on important things.

2.   I love that you constantly encourage and teach me how to be a better version of myself. You make me feel strong, like I can do anything I put my mind to.

3.   I love that you’re the most optimistic person I know. No matter how dire a situation is, you’re always optimistic that something good will come out of it.

4.   I love that you cuddle and watch KUWTK (and all my fave cartoons and soppy romantic movies on Netflix) with me. I know you think they are not your thing but we both know you secretly love them as much as I do.

5.   I love your love for travel and how we’ve made it our thing. That’s one of my favourite things to do with you.

6.   I love that your face lights up when you see a beautiful sunset or during beautiful moments like NYE fireworks display or coming face to face with something you’ve looked forward to. Your face is so beautiful, my love.

7.   I love that you are so ambitious. You want something, you plan how to go for it, you get it, smash it and then, it is unto the next.

8.   I love that you accepted me into your bubble of happiness and it is now our bubble. We share this bubble that I feel can’t burst or be penetrated. It is so magical!

9.   I love that you are always pushing causes for women. Your feminism is inspiring and if more men were like you on that topic, this world would be a safer and better space for women.

10.   I love that you encourage my ideas. You never feel threatened by my success or dim my achievements, you are my no 1 cheerleader, supporter, and you’re constantly celebrating me.

11.   I love that you are very passionate about Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. I mean, they keep breaking our hearts but you are the most loyal and passionate supporter I know. Yes, you are very loyal.

12.   I love how you love my family so much. You have basically stepped into big brother and father role to my little brother and that boy worships the ground you walk on. The love you showed my mummy as well, sending her fruit baskets on mother’s day without my knowledge and all your cute convos and pictures with her. Even planning all the arrangements with the funeral director, coroner and registrar when I just couldn’t stop crying or articulate my words properly. I would never understand how I got so blessed.

13.   I love that you love God.

14.   I love your smell. The fresh, the back-from-gym-stink, all of them, I love!

15.   I love your sexy bum. Fave thing I love about your gorgeous body.

16.   Oh now we are talking bums, I love you in a suit or in sweat pants or in swim shorts. I got me a man who looks good in any and everything.

17.   I love that you check up on me every day at work.

18.   I love that you are so intelligent. Legit the smartest man I know. You didn’t get that Distinction in uni by fluke!

19.   I love that you give everything at your job. There is no chance for mediocrity with you; always excellence.

20.   I love that even when we have an argument and we don’t like each other very much in that moment, we never stop loving each other and I know that we will always find a way back into our bubble.

21.   I love that you sparked my love for classical music and introduced me to Andrea Bocelli and now, he’s our happy music.

22.   I love that you love watching theatre productions with me and that our fave movie is Les Miserables and that no matter how many times we’ve seen it, you’ll always see it with me.

26.   I love that you take care of your material things and know the value of money spent on them. Your one million pairs of white sneakers, your car and your designer items, I love how you’re so meticulous about cleaning and storing them.

27.   I love that you are close to your siblings and chat with them all the time. You are such a family man and I love it.

28.   I love that you 100% respect me, my opinions and choices.

29.   I love that you are a responsible man. You know your integrity and will never compromise. You are a great person.

30.   I love that you went all in with me. You gave our relationship a chance even when we were uncertain of the future; you knew what you wanted and always went for it (aka me. LMAO) – tbh the best decision you’ve ever made right?!

31.   I love that I know your heart. It is never a guessing game with you. I know where I am with you at all times and it feels secure.

32.   I love the way you love me. No halves, you are all in and our intimate moments will always be a major part of our happy times.

33.   I love that you are so strong for me. I’m such an emotional mess whenever life tests us and you are always there holding on, standing in the gap and asking the right questions (while I’m somewhere crying smh). This is me saying thank you most especially for the last 4 months.

34.   I love that you married me you know?! Like you actually thought “wow this babe is actually a peng ting” and married me. I rate you for marrying a 10/10 tbh!

35.   Lastly, I love that you are growing more beautiful and even sexier every day. It’s refreshing that I’ll always fancy the pants off you!

I got to number 35 and realised that there are still a lot more things I love about you but these will do for now. Happy 35th my love, I’ll always be your no 1 fan, cheer leader, shag and whatever else you want me to be. Today gets even better in a few hours.

      So I came across your birthday thread on Twitter and I read this blog post and 🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️

      The thing I find most beautiful about this is (and apologies if it sounds strange) but I just broke up with someone I really loved and I was feeling kind of hopeless. I used to write poems and letters and stuff and I was made to feel really strange about it and that I was being too “intense” by expressing my love this way. I saw this and it filled me with such joy because I can just feel how pure and honest your love is and seeing it shared like this, in such a genuine way just lit me up and made me feel really happy. I know that there is someone for me who would appreciate me planning a whole host of birthday surprises (I really do things like you did and go all out for the person I love) and wouldn’t use that as a reason to put me down (yes, it is possible).

      Anyway sorry for rambling, I just want to share my congratulations both to your husband on his birthday, and to you for being so bold in showing your love and sharing it with the world. It really made me smile to see this ❤️

        Pls don’t apologise, my wish has always been for my blog to be a space where women are free to share as much as they are comfortable to. I love poems and letters – I still write those too hehe. You are not intense and you are not too much. Your person will find you and suddenly, it will all makes sense. Just don’t change who you really are or try to water yourself down to please anyone!

      aww Thank you for your lovely comment Ogechi. So lovely of you to write such a heartfelt note.
      Now, I’m by no means a relationship adviser (ha!) but I just think that what works (for me at least) was putting all my cards on the table from day 1 and him doing the same; as the years have gone by, we have grown together making sure not to leave the other person behind. We are very intentional about our relationship and communicate quite well.

    I GO LOVE O!! Man, Bugo I love how you love out loud, I’m not good at it at all and it’s always been one of my favourite things about you. This is so beautiful and Somto is a very very lucky man.

    But he is amazing and we love him and even though I can’t be there for you all the time because of distance, I’m always secure that you’re good because he’s there with you.

    Now I feel like crying. Yuck. Have to go watch love and hip hop and get some of my agbero back.
