Duck and Waffle – Brunch Spot Review

Duck and Waffle is probably one of the most famous spots in London because of its location and 24 hour service. It is described as a “sky high restaurant that never sleeps” This is indeed very true. Whatever time you roll out of bed, you can climb up to its 40th floor location to catch the sunrise while sipping on an early morning cuppa or if you fancy a gorgeous sunset, a dinner in the same location will give you the most perfect sunset view over London’s skyline.

View from the 40th floor!

The  website is very easy to navigate and  reservations open up about 2 months in advance. You can most likely get a table if you walk in sans reservation; however, I’d highly recommend you reserve a spot to avoid having to wait.

Location

Located in the heart of the city, on the very busy Bishopsgate road, its address is 110 Bishopsgate EC2N 4AY. Again, as with all central London spots, the underground is your best option or you can jump in a taxi to get you there. Parking would be quite difficult and most likely, very expensive.

It is about 3 minutes walk from Liverpool street station so you see, very very central!

From the ground floor, the lift takes you up and because it is see through, you actually get to see the buildings outside as you go higher and higher; pretty cool I know! However, if you are scared of heights, this can be quite daunting lol. We got off on the 39th floor, which is actually another restaurant – Sushi Samba, and made our way up the stairs to Duck and Waffle. This was the best decision as we went up the famous “orange stairs” and it opened up to a bar space. Further down was Duck and Waffle’s reception.

Now, I will say that the seating area is not much to look at. It was just alright but tbh with all the floral walls I have been seeing lately, it was refreshing to have something different and quite ordinary.

I mentioned that it is located on the 40th floor of a building right? You know what this means? It means that you are in prime position to have a glorious view of the city’s skyline and top of office buildings. I’m talking helipads, roof top gardens, pent houses and the likes. Imagine the view when it is sunny or even when it snows, so beautiful! You can also see the Gherkin and Tower Bridge if you are sat on the left side of the room. We were in luck because our direct view was the Gherkin!

Menu

Duck and Waffle offers an all day menu, which includes breakfast, brunch, dessert, late night, cocktails and drink menu. On weekdays, breakfast menu is from 6am – 10.30am (until 9am on weekends), Lunch is 11.30am – 4pm (9am – 4pm on weekends), Dinner is 5pm – 11pm and Late Night is 11.30pm – 5am.

I must admit that the Brunch menu is not as extensive as some others and they do not serve pancakes. I repeat, they do not serve pancakes. We usually have the Duck and Waffle combo; however, as it was Good Friday and we were abstaining from meat, we had to pick non-meat dishes.

Mr E had the Colombian Eggs, which was scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, avocado and smoked salmon. I had fried eggs and sourdough toast. To share, we had the Crispy Shrimp, which was like a shrimp pizza with pepperonata and rapeseed mayo on spiced flatbread.

For dessert, we shared the Caramelised Banana, which was homemade hazelnut & chocolate spread, vanilla ice cream and peanut crunch.

To drink, I had a glass of Rosé (we all know spring is Rosé season lol) and Mr E had the nastiest drink ever (he thought it was nice though), Clementine and Dark Chocolate Martinez.

Everything was lovely. My favourite thing was the Crispy Shrimp. Mr E and I could not get enough of it!

Service

I would say that I never really experience bad service when I go to restaurants. The service in Duck and Waffle was no exception, it was fantastic. From the ground floor where our reservation was checked to the reception where we were greeted to the lady who showed us to our seats to our waiter, perfect service!

It was a very hot day and the waiter brought a standing fan to cool the temperature, gave us time to catch our breath and was never to far away incase we needed anything. Even when I could not make up my mind whether to have Rosé or a cocktail, he was very patient with me until my indecisive head got it together lol

Value for Money

It is worth your coins. All of it.

Duck and Waffle is not just about the food but the ambiance as well which plays a massive role for people going to eat there in the first place. Therefore, the value for money, I would give it a strong 9 out of 10. It is such an iconic spot that you would pay whatever to actually lunch and dine there. You get the 12.5% charge included in your bill.

One thing I would say though is that I would rather have breakfast here over brunch as the brunch menu is not as extensive as I would have liked. View the menu and you can make up your mind as to what meal suits you best; however, I will advice that if you are in London, Duck and Waffle is a must visit.

I hope I have covered everything you would like to know. If you have any questions about anything brunch related or specific to Duck and Waffle, leave a comment or send an email.

Until next time…

….Bisous!!

I think it’s all part of the swag; not too pretty nor perfect. A bit rustic and old school maybe?!

You’ll love it for the London skyline view anyway xx
